As an expert in the field of education evaluations, you have been invited to be the keynote presenter at AEA’s annual summer conference. The conference planning committee has invited you to present on the paradigm shift of the teacher evaluation structure across the nation. The committee understands evaluating teachers is a hot topic and wants you to present on the overall nature of this topic, focusing on the following elements:
Explain whether formative and/or summative teacher evaluations should be integrated into evaluating teachers.
Interpret whether student performance data should be part of the summative evaluation for teachers across the nation.
Should student performance be an element in teacher performance?
Do teacher evaluations provide an accurate image of a teacher’s performance?
Are there any biases associated with the evaluation system that can impact a teacher’s evaluation?
Based on your research, indicate if you believe the teacher evaluation system is equitable for all, accurately portrays a teacher’s abilities, and if the expectations of the evaluation process are clearly portrayed. Provide examples to support your findings, reflecting on economic and social justice issues faced in today’s educational environment.
Share any alternatives to formative evaluations that may assist with evaluating teacher performance. Explain how such techniques can help institutional growth.
